Beach Burn nightclub in Stillorgan is FULL of underage kids and some are drunk before stepping foot in there. I know this because I have a 17 year old cousin who was there only a few weeks ago for end of year celebrations, he got in and he got served alcohol. The Portobello on the other hand runs and OVER 30'S night - YES, OVER THIRTIES nights- so why shoot the adults down?- the ones that have mortgages to pay and deserve a cheaper pint, while let the kids away with it (the ones who are still living at home with their parents). - I do NOT understand Irish society. Why can't we have 24 hour licenses like the UK instead of controlling the hours? As a society we cannot say by having this type of license we will be encouraging binge drinking - because people will drink slower and pace themselves and not rush into a pub at 10pm and feel under pressure to "catch up" with their friends resulting in drinking faster and getting drunk quicker. Ireland has NO concept of continental style responsible drinking. Why not introduce free tapas? No!- because its all about profit! I've lived all around the world and can say that in South Africa, Europe, Australia - they only close their pubs when the last customer leaves and if its 3am then so be it - everyone's happy. The publican has made a profit and the customers have had their drink. Adults have worked for their money and deserve a break. Control the kids - stop controlling the adults! We should realise that by not allowing pubs to drop their prices will result in domestic drinking (and who really pours an exact measure 35ml spirit at home? no one!) -and this clearly will result in domestic violence and further abuse. I cannot wait for the revolution to start - and then the Irish will know what it means to have a drink in nice company at prices that are in line with the rest of the continent and it will be responsible because we're adults and shouldn't have to be treated like kids Sent this to the evening herald and MEAS today:
